What Leads To Being On The Wrong Side Of The Divide?

Countries like Guinea Biseau, Chad, Mali, Burkino Fasso, and Niger are the least digitally-developed countries because they were all part of France at one point so they werent granted freedom untill around the 1960's. This would effect the countries because they didnt have the freedom to move on and try things without france giving the ok first. They have all be subject to dictatorship, and millitary ruling. Some have broken away from it but others still carry on. This means if the country is under a e.g. dictatorship the people arnt allowed to express their own views or way of life so they have to do what the leader says, and as you know the internet i a good way to speak out so they would get rid of the internet all together. So this means id they resently have come out of say dictatorship they have to start all new. They also all have very little internet users and hosts. Mail only has 28 internet hosts and 100,000 internet users compaired to its 12 million people living in the country. The big main reason these contries are on the wrong side of the divide is that they havent had the training and facilities to learn how to use thses new pieces of hardware and software so this could be the main reason they are on the wrong side of te divide. 

Dicussion Impact Of Games Players

Computer games are so popular because they apply to a wide audience. Before computer games only applyed to boys, but now computer games apply to a wide range of people they apply to girls and familys. Publishers such as Nintendo are reaching out to familys with their new consoles instead of their original fan base. Games like super mario and metroid are aimed more at children and familys than the originals which applyed more to boys than children and familys. Other pubishes such as microsoft are now exspanding into family gaming. The playstaition 3 still stay loyal to the original fan base with games such as silent hill and metal gear solid. I think that computer games dont make you violent at all. They are made to be violent so you are able to shoot someone in a virtual world insead of real life. Take halo 3, you wouldnt go around hitting people with giant hammers in the street you can only do it in the world of halo. The reason they make these games violent because you dont have to kill in real life. I dont think games make you isolated because on game consoles such as the xbox 360 you can speak to other players so when your playing online you always have someone to talk to so i dont think games make you isolated. I dont think that games make you less social because its the same like with the isolated issue on consoles like the xbox 360 you can speak with people and make new friends over xbox live so i dont think that games make you less social

Communicating with SMS in text language has a very big social downside this is because, for one you dont directly talk to the person which means there is a lack of social confrontation. There is also the lack of good grammer coming out of the SMS's. People abbreviate too much in SMSs and therefore not a person new to SMS can uderstand what they are trying to say. The main reason for we shouldnt text so much and call or see the person because with texting it causes a lack of soscial confrontation.

i think netfrog is a very good site to look at before dissecting a frog, or if you dont want to dissect a frog but you need to know about it. I think its goood because it offers practising service for the dissection of a frog. I think this is good because it shows you how to do the dissection well and it also shows you what is involved so you dont make any mistakes if you do it. You can also use netfrog insead of dissecting a frog. I think this is the main purpose behind the site because it shows you everything you need to know about the dissectin of a frog, it saves you doing it if you feel sick or find its wrong to do, and it saves killing frogs. I think this teaches us the online education is a good thing because the internet can offer a wide bank of knowledge better if you would do the thing yoursef and it also saves money, but the downside to this is you wont have any personal exsperience in the process which would be bad if it was a simulation of e.g. a plane.

The disadvantages of buying a pirate DVD from a market stall is that the DVD may be blank with nothing on it or the quality is very bad so you cant even see the picture. The disadvantages of getting a pirate download of the latest Hollywood blockbuster before the UK release are the file may not be the right movie. The movie file may be infected with a virus and the picture quality may be very bad. The disadvantages of visiting an illict music download site are you might get caught downloading on there. The files may be fake and full of viruses and usally the songs are blank so if they charge for the downloads you may loose money or have you details stolen. I dont think that widespread illicit downloading discourages the funding for new talent because the music artists are still making money even with the illicit downloads going on and many artist have brought out free songs to combat the downloadings which makes them more famous.

Today i looked up digital divide using google groups. I wanted to use the the advance search option to shearch digital divide posts inthe last six months. I found this useul because it shearched everything about the digital divide in the last six months so i think usenet is good for shearching spercific things. the othy down side is that i still pull up a lot of pages so you might still have to look for a while.

i think its good to abbreviate short messages but i think its a bit pointless to abbreviate on long important messages but for short texts to friend and loved ones its fine because you spend less time writing the message.

Online Entertainment

All the online things i have used in the past 3 moths are as followed, i have used Youtube. Youtube allows me to whatch online videos.  I think the target audince for Youtube is anyone who wants to whatch funny videos and TV shows. The limiations of Youtube are there are too maney videos and it can be hard sometimes to shearch for the right videos. I have also used Xbox live. Xbox live allows me to to play online games e.g. Halo 3 with other people over the internet. The target audience for Xbox live are mainly teenagers and kids because this is the age rating that computer games apply to. The limitations of Xbox live is sometimes not all the time the game laggs and the service cuts off.  I have also used iTunes. iTunes allows me to isten and download music. It also allows me to sinc my music to my iPod. I think the target audience for iTunes is anyone who wants to listen to music. I think the limitations of iTunes is that the program sometimes crashes with the overload of data.

Reasons for downloading:

1. It doesnt cost anything

2. You get it fast

3. It's not available in your country

4. The file is in the right format so there

is no need for converting.

For downloading i use Utorrent which allows me to download torrent files from other users. I also use Ares which is a P2P client which allows me to obtain the files fast. The prolems i have found using these programs are people not seeding which means the speed is slow because other people arnt uploading, and using these programs i am at a higher risk of catching viruses.

Today i visited eBay. The main purposes of eBay is to sell or auction off new or unwanted items to people. This is done 2 ways. The first way is the "buy it now" option. This allows the buyer to pay a fixed amount for the item instead of bidding for it. The second way is the "bid" option. This allows the buyer to place a bid on the item and the highest bid wins. On both of these options there is a time limit where the item is allowed to be veiwed/bought for the siad time limit , after that the item is sold or taken off eBay. Ithink the main target audience for eBay are collectors and importers. I think this because there seems to be more rare items and import items being sold than local items on eBay. I think the benefits of eBay are that you get a quick safe service and you can find almost anything on there but the limitations are that you have to rely on the person to send you the product and the cost of the P&P can be high at times. I think it is a successful shoping model because you can find almost everything thats in the shops on ebay and you can shop from you home without having to go out it comes in handy for late christmas presents.

Today i had a chat on msn with a friend from school. We dicussed the purpose of email, and came to the conclusion that email is needed because it is a factor in everybodys life and its the best way to send messages to people fast and then get a reply. We then disscused the advantages and disavantages of email. We said that the advantage of email is that its fast and you can get a fast reply. The disadvantages of email is that you get a lot of junk mail and you can get viruses from the emails.

When Do You Use Eamil

I use email a lot. I use it almost everyday to interact with friends and family. i use 2 email clients for my email. If i want to email on my Apple Mac i use Imail. Imail is a good email cilent because it protected from viruses and spam. it also send emails very fast and i get the emails back quickly. Imail also has templates. This allows you to customise your email and send it to people e.g.imail will allow you to make a birthday email. For my pc i use msn's hotmail service. Msn's hotmail service is good because it allows you to send emails fast and its easy access because its all ran from the internet. Hotmail also has a spam blocker this is good because it puts all unwanted emails in the junk box.

In the past i have used many online services many better than others. The most common online service that i have used has to be Google. I use Google almost everyday i use it to navigate to diffrent websites and to help me in my school work. I also use MSN to talk to my friend over the internet, with this i also use skype. I also use xbox live for gaming. I also use it to interact with other players that are playing the same game. Xbox live also allows me to talk to people as well as link it with MSN which, through the xbox live dashboard which will allow me to talk to people on my friends list like on the pc. I also use Youtube for whatching videos online. For my download service i use Ares or Utorrent. Ares is a P2P client i use to get things fast, and then i use Utorrent to download larger files +1GB. For my email i use Imail for may mac and for my pc i use MSN for my email client.
